About Donna Reed
Donna Reed was born Donnabelle Mullenger in Denison, Iowa. At the age of 16, She left by train for Los Angeles to complete her formal education and to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Her dream became reality as she captivated the country with her sensitive portrayals in films like the classic It's A Wonderful Life. Donna appeared in over 40 feature films with many of Hollywood's greatest stars. She won the coveted Oscar for her role in From Here to Eternity.
Donna was not only the star, but the unaccredited producer and director of her own TV series, The Donna Reed Show, In spite of the fame and fortune she found as a successful Hollywood actress, she never forgot her hometown. She was proud of being an Iowa farm girl and returned to Denison often throughout her career. Following her death in 1986, her Oscar was donated to the city of Denison and is currently on display at the historic Mc Henry House. Friends and family turned out to honor her, and from that gathering the Donna Reed Foundation for the Performing Arts was born.
